Course Description
PMAN 601: Project Management
Note: All courses carry three (3) credits unless otherwise stated.
This introductory course examines the concepts and applied techniques for cost effective man-agement of both long-term development programs and short-term projects.
PMAN 601: Project Management introduces participants to the systematic processes associated with project management and is based on the PMBOK® Guide. The course focuses on the basic process groups and knowledge areas depicted in the PMBOK® Guide; and provides participants with the opportunity to complete exercises, case studies, and a team-based project simulation to apply this content.
Participants will learn basic project management principles and methodology with a special focus on planning, controlling, and coordinating individual and group efforts. Common project management techniques and tools will be used to analyze specific business cases, and to then develop possible solutions using newly acquired skills.
Participants will take part in a project simulation at the end of the course in which they will create and implement a project plan. Participants will be required to follow the PMBOK® Guide in order to design, plan, and execute the project. Their participation in these learning activities will also facilitate a basic understanding of how to initiate, plan, execute, control, and finalize a project through the implementation of project management processes and tools.
Finally, participants will also come to grasp the importance of gathering, analyzing, and communicating essential information to ensure successful project completion.
